Now on PBS KIDS GO!, a new educational multimedia destination created by, for, and about early elementary school kids, airing weekdays from 4-6 p.m. and on weekends (check local listings)

Arthur's best friend Buster stars in his very own series Postcards from Buster, the new series blends animation with live-action footage of Buster's adventures throughout the United States, with forays into Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Buster, one of the most popular characters on Arthur, the EmmyŠ Award-winning animated series based on Marc Brown's books about an eight year-old aardvark and his family and friends, accompanies his airline pilot father as he flies the Latin rock group Los Viajeros on a concert tour. To stay in touch with friends back home, Buster mails them live-action video "postcards" he creates of the people and places he visits using a small video camera. Narrated by Buster, his P.O.V.-style footage is woven seamlessly into each animated story. The new series is produced by Marc Brown Studios, WGBH Boston and Cookie Jar Entertainment, Inc.

Each episode incorporates an original song about the region or city Buster is about to visit. The songs--sung by Los Viajeros--introduce viewers to the new location and help to advance the narrative. Upbeat, diverse music genres are folded into storylines as a vehicle to help introduce kids to different cultures, as well as reinforce the curriculum for viewers who are learning English through repetition, rhyme, and catchy lyrics. Award-winning Argentinean composer Claudio Ragazzi (Next Stop Wonderland, The Blue Diner) serves as series music supervisor.

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers is publishing a series of leveled readers for children ages six to nine titled Passport to Reading, which ties into Buster's adventures on the show, and the people and places he encounters on his journey.

The Postcards from Buster website will feature games, songs, video clips, recipes, and maps, as well as Buster Baxter's personal blog, his online travel diary. A section of the site dedicated to parents and teachers will offer activities and lesson plans to extend the educational goals of both the TV series and the online games.

National educational outreach for the first season of Postcards from Buster will target teachers working with students learning English as a second language. A comprehensive teacher guide for elementary classroom and after-school programs, Using Postcards from Buster with English Language Learners, offers strategies for using the series and companion Web site to develop students' oral language and literacy skills. The guide includes suggestions for introducing, viewing and extending each episode, while giving children a range of opportunities to practice key language, discuss the content of the episode, and make personal connections.
